Guidelines for Creating Affirming Group Experiences

The aim of this document is to broaden the awareness of AGPA members as we work to become a more inclusive organization. These guidelines, while not exhaustive nor fixed, have been created to provide strategies for effectively addressing microaggressions and potentially oppressive dialogues and behaviors in groups. As with any change process, AGPA’s efforts towards increased inclusivity is a complex, challenging process that requires patience and compassion.

To Our White Colleagues: Reckoning with Being the Problem*

Craig Haen, PhD, RDT, CGP, LCAT, FAGPA and Phillip Horner, MSW, LCSW, CGP, on behalf of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Task Force, have written this article examining how whiteness impacts interactions, and how even the smallest comments or empathic misses can greatly harm colleagues who identify as Black, Ingenious, and People of Color (BIPOC). The article provides humble steps as a beginning to understanding the depth of racism and an invitation for further reflection and growth.
