Commitment to Excellence and Ethical Practice
The American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) is a multidisciplinary membership organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge, research, and training of group psychotherapy and related interventions to improve client care. In collaboration, the International Board for Certification of Group Psychotherapists upholds the highest standards in the field by certifying practitioners based on nationally recognized criteria and promoting these standards to mental health professionals, employers, insurers, educators, and clients.
Membership in AGPA and/or certification through the Board requires strict adherence to ethical guidelines as defined by applicable state licensing boards or national professional organizations. Individuals without such affiliations must follow the American Psychological Association’s ethical principles. Ethical concerns should be directed to the appropriate licensing board or, if unavailable, to the individual’s professional organization or legal authorities.
Membership or certification will be revoked in the event of license suspension, revocation, voluntary relinquishment, or a legal finding of guilt. It is the responsibility of each member or certificant to report any such changes to AGPA and the Certification Board.
